We have been putting together a collection of great things to do whilst you are in the Lakes. Whether it is romantic surprise for your partner or an experience you can share together to build great memories …here are a few :


Afternoon Tea in stunning places (with or without Champagne):

  • Lakeside Hotel Afternoon Tea is served between 2pm and 5pm, allowing you to sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

  •  Linthwaite House Hotel serves an exquisite afternoon tea. The Unstuffy Full Afternoon Tea includes a pot of loose leaf tea or freshly ground coffee, a selection of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, plus home made cakes, and a glass of champagne can be added if desired. A less elaborate Cream Tea is also available which includes scones with jam and clotted cream.

  • Set in lovely gardens in Ambleside  Rothay Manor- Choose from a selection of sandwiches, savouries, cream cakes, tea breads, scones with jam and cream and more! As well as a wide selection of teas, from Farrers Lakeland special blend to Broken Orange Pekoe and Lapsang Suchong.

  • The Samling – afternoon tea at the Samling awarded a Michelin Star in the 2014 guide and is the current holder of the “Best Boutique Dining hotel in the world” for 2013.

We are lucky enough to have wealth of places to eat out both in Hawkshead and in surrounding villages but if you want something very special here are the Michelin Restaurants locally:

  • The Samling has been awarded a Michelin star in the 2014 guide and is the current holder of the “Best Boutique Dining Hotel in the World” title for 2013.

  • Holbeck Ghyll – Michelin star, 3 AA Rosette restaurant overlooking lake Windermere. Terrace for outside dining. Oak-panelled restaurant overlooking lake Windermere. Traditional British with French influence

  • L’Enclume, Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands. Simon Rogan’s modern style of cuisine uses local produce where possible, gathered from the Cartmel Valley. The aim is to be innovative and stretch the boundaries by looking at unusual flavour combinations. Quality wines from around the world compliment the gastronomic experience.

  • Bird of prey experience As well as being one of the most exhilarating activities in Cumbria, our experience days provide a fascinating insight into the life and evolutionary adaptations of birds of prey.

  • Forest Segway Get off the beaten track for an hour of fun with our Forest Segway in Grizedale Forest

  • Vintage Steam Engine Experience Days - enjoy a full day learning to drive a steam traction engine on the roads of the beautiful Lake District.

  • Go – ape – treetop experience

  • Zip Trekking Adventure is a brand NEW experience. The course is a network of seven tandem zip lines that traverse the sky-scraping Douglas Firs at Grizedale Forest, providing customers with an exhilarating experience of flying way above the forest floor, and seeing the area in a completely new way.opening July Flying through the air on the longest series of zip wires anywhere in the UK, through one of the most beautiful, dramatic forests out there. And not just once, but seven times – over a total distance of 3km and for around 2 exhilarating hours.

  • Climbing Wall – Ambleside -Book a private session with a tutor or do it as a couple in Amblesides indoor climbing wall

  • Hire a Canadian Canoe or Kayak and explore the quieter Coniston Water

  • Ghyll scrambling in the Lake District is an invigorating and challenging activity involving working your way up or down a gorge containing a tumbling mountain river. It’s the perfect activity for families and groups in the Lake District looking for something a little different. You can traverse along rock faces, hop across boulders, climb up waterfalls, slide down natural rock chutes and plunge from up to 8 metres into deep pools of water, and all from only £30 per person.

  • Book a windsurfing course – If you haven’t tried windsurfing before and think you’ll never stand up long enough to move…our qualified instructors are confident they can prove you wrong!

  • Get the most out of you mountain biking guided mountain bike tours in Grizedale.

A Bit of Pampering:
